Beginning Airbrush Instructor: Fred Schollmeyer

Students will learn basic information about airbrushing including hardware, control techniques and masking.
Supply list: None required. Students may use teacher’s airbrush equipment; however this is limited to class size. If the student has their own airbrush, hose, compressor, etc., they are welcome to bring those to the class to use.

Students will produce a finished airbrush artwork using frisket film. They will learn basic color mixing and application using airbrush.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY: POSTERS & COLLAGE Instructor: Dennis Weiser

Class Description: This an introductory level class for photographers, artists and hobbyists who wish to design graphic posters for church, social or business functions, create photo collages for personal artistic expression, or construct digital scrapbook “pages” for family or friends to enjoy.
Prerequisites: basic computer literacy and photographic ability (instructor will not be able to teach students about basic operation of their camera and/or computer)
Equipment: Student should have access to Computer loaded with Photoshop Elements® or equivalent software, and a digital camera. Access to an internet connection also will be necessary for on-line transmission of student’s work to the instructor’s computer.
Session One: Instructor will demonstrate techniques involved in assembling a set of photos into a sample poster layout and a photo collage. Students will discuss their goals for creating their own poster and/or collage designs. Discussion will include possible themes and potential sources of images.
Session Two: Using digital photos taken at the beginning of the session, the class will participate in a group exercise – using those photos to create a sample poster and college. This will be a confidence building “hands-on” session intended to give each student an opportunity to load, size and manipulate the images. Before the final session - Students will create a poster or collage at home and email their work to the Instructor. Individual suggestions and comments will be sent to each student regarding the work they submit.
Session Three: Students’ poster or college designs will be reviewed by the class for comment and suggestions. Each student should expect to complete the course with at least one finished poster or collage design under their belt.

AM Session -- Using household tools, learn texture techniques to create simple but elegant contemporary pendants and matching earrings....the first set will be copper, the final set will be sterling. Jewelry & base metal ear wires will be available, but students may bring their own favorite ribbons, cords, chains, or provide own sterling findings.
PM Session -- Ring Band - You'll feel quite accomplished when you use texture techniques from the morning class to decorate wire then form into an adjustable sterling ring, for your fingers or toes. Each student will make 2 adjustable rings. A variety of wire sizes and shapes will be available. As time allows, additional decorative patterns will also be available for additional cost.

For late morning sleepers or those with morning plans, this is an afternoon camp, find a friend, even if it is your sister or your mom, and bring it! Do you love, love, love some of the newest fashion trends but got a tight budget....spend the week learning some new fashion tricks based on some crafts from the past...great for yourself and to use again & again to make affordable gifts... Some projects may require a bit of work at home in the evening...not homework, but funwork! (check the Capital Arts website for additional information about materials and supplies; most materials will be included in the class cost, but you may bring your own also)
Monday - Jewelry -Loads of color, beads, string, and fun - use recycled magazine papers in your favorite colors to create great beads that look like glass, for necklaces, bracelets, and earrings...! Learn the basics of knotting to create great jewelry for girls and guys. String 'em up with beads from broken jewelry, buttons, or those forgotten beads in your play stash. Ask family and friends to help you out with your add-ins. You will never be jewelry-poor again!
Tuesday & Wednesday - Scarfin' up Your Fashion Image!
Learn to make a year-round silk scarf and a warm fuzzy winter scarf! No experience necessary! For your winter scarf, you will learn to finger-crochet a loopy, thick & thin yarn into a fun & feisty scarf that looks like a lion's mane. The beauty of silk is it can be worn year-round....learn the traditional Japanese surface design technique of shibori to wrap, tie, and dye a unique, one-of-a-kind silk scarf. You will be sure to receive many oohs & aahs from all that see your fabulous creations.
Thursday - Upcycled Jewelry - Using pre-washed, shrunken wool sweaters and cool fabric & yarn scraps, we will create great jewelry from recycled materials. After an introduction to the basics of wet felting, we will take a quick walking trip to Salvation Army to see the affordable options for art materials that are readily available.
Friday- Wrap it Up - We will complete any unfinished work, and then share our fashion frenzy with a final runway walk to admire each others creations! It will have been such a busy week, there will not have been time to see each others work. We will take photos and post them on the Capital Arts website or your own social network pages.

NOTE: Participants need to bring their own frame with glass and their piece of finished artwork. We will be working with 16x20 mats in this workshop. Your work may be approximately 11x14 or 12x16 in size before matting.

Comics Camp: Creating Comic Strips and Comic Books

This camp offers a ground floor entry to the exciting and expanding world of comics. Students will be given firsthand knowledge and practical experience in creating and developing their own world and visual language for all to enjoy!
Students of all experience levels are welcome!
Monday: Introduction to the Visual Language of Comics
Students will learn about the fundamentals of the comic page and the many uses of the tools of the trade.
Tuesday: Creating Characters and Basic Storytelling
Students will expand their work into creating or refining characters, as well as learning about creating tone and impact through various storytelling and compositional strategies.
Wednesday: The Comic Strip
Students will create a short form strip with an original character.
Thursday: The Comic Book
Students will begin creating a working script for a full length comic book and start work on a short form comic book layout.
Friday: Ready to Publish!
Students will look over any completed works and discuss the many possibilities of publication both in print and in the digital realm.
*All completed strips and comic pages will be collected for an anthology available to each student.

Students will work on creating multiple techniques within a painting and learn how to create dynamic effects and surface enhancements to improve any acrylic work.
Thursday/Friday: Project Creation
Students will spend the final two days creating an original acrylic painting. We will cover the process from early sketches through the application of paint until the projects completion.
